Girls' Day at DEUTZ AG

  • DEUTZ invites young women and girls to its training workshop as part of the campaign day
  • Trainers and trainees to present careers in the metalworking and electrical engineering industries
  • DEUTZ aims to awaken participants' enthusiasm for a career in engineering

DEUTZ AG will again be taking part in Girls' Day on 14 April 2011. During this Germany-wide campaign day, Cologne-based engine manufacturer DEUTZ will give schoolgirls the chance to visit the
DEUTZ training workshop, where they will gain an insight into various technical careers.

Girls and young women will be able to find out about a whole range of technical training opportunities on Girls' Day. Starting at 9am, trainers and trainees will explain the different vocational traineeships available at DEUTZ and provide information about the company as an employer. An employers' association information bus will contain an exhibition about working in the metalworking and electrical engineering industries, while short technical exercises in the training workshop will enable participants to gain their first practical experience.

"When it comes to choosing a career, many girls still opt for professions typically associated with women", said Dr Margarete Haase, DEUTZ Board of Management member responsible for Finance, Human Resources and Investor Relations. "By taking part in Girls' Day, we aim to make training opportunities for engineering roles at DEUTZ even more accessible to girls and young women and to dispel the exaggerated awe in which they hold jobs in technical disciplines".

At the moment, 17 young women are pursing technical or engineering apprenticeships at DEUTZ. The proportion of female trainees in technical and engineering disciplines at DEUTZ AG is 10 per cent – higher than the average for the industry as a whole. Training activities aimed specifically at young women, such as Girls' Day, have resulted in the proportion of female applicants rising to an
average of 5-8 per cent.

DEUTZ AG is also one of the leading companies in the Women-on-Board (WoB) index. Currently around 20 per cent of the company's managers are female, and women account for 8.3 per cent of the members of the DEUTZ AG Supervisory Board.
